No Child Must be Kept from School – Education Minister

Posted on 9/6/2016

With just a few days left for the start of the 2016/17 academic year, Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, is reminding parents and guardians that no child should be kept at home without a good reason.

Senator Reid says the Ministry is satisfied with the state of readiness for the new school year, which begins on Monday, September 5.

“We are convinced that all is in place for us to have a very successful year,” the Minister said at a back-to-school press conference, held at the Ministry’s Heroes Circle offices in Kingston on August 31.

Mr. Reid emphasised that no school must exclude any student from registration, except where the cause is provided for in the Education Code.

He said the Ministry is continuing to monitor the progress of its back-to-school preparations.

The Ministry used the occasion to wish all students, teachers, principals, parents and education stakeholders a successful academic year.
