Technology will Boost Delivery of Education Services – Senator Reid

Posted on 9/8/2016

Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, has cited the importance of technology in ensuring effective management and delivery of education services.

“In this technological world, we will have to depend on technology to provide us with the kind of efficiencies that are necessary to make managing our (schools) far more effective,” he said.

He was delivering the keynote address at the launch of Educate Jamaica online recruitment services, held at The Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston on Tuesday (September 6).

Educate Jamaica provides a database of carefully screened employees for schools, such as principals, teachers, and staff at all levels of the system.

Minister Reid endorsed the service, noting that it will enable the system to identify “the best talents that we need in our classrooms” while saving time and money in recruiting staff.

He encouraged more Jamaicans to come up with business ideas that meet particular needs and benefit the economy.

“I like to encourage small businesses… and providing these types of services that we can sell. This is what we are going to have to use to leverage our economy,” he said.

Minister Reid told the gathering of school leaders and human resource personnel at universities that technology must be used to empower people, to earn meaningful incomes, and help the economy to grow, so that the “development that we strive to achieve by 2030 can be realised.”
