Young People in St. James to be Prepared for Jobs in Maritime Sector

Youth Information Centres to be Restructured

The Government will be restructuring the Youth Information Centres (YICs) across the island, to have them focusing on young people in business and the fostering of creative ideas. State Minister in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Floyd Green, said priority will be given to young persons who want to start profitable ventures, and the YICs will serve as hubs for such development.

Gov’t to Create Youth Advisory Board

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information plans to create a Youth Advisory Board in order to deepen its engagements with the nation’s young people. State Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, says the Board, whose members will include young people, is intended to involve them in the Ministry’s decision-making process on matters relating to them.

Life More Abundant At Cecilio Ave - St Andrew High Choir Records School Song

In June 2015, the flag was hoisted at St Andrew High School for Girls (SAHS), Cecilio Avenue, to mark the beginning of the school's 90th anniversary celebrations. As part of the commemoration, last Tuesday, its school song, which is more than 50 years old, was recorded at Almond Productions, New Kingston.

Gov’t Looking to Extend Support under NYS and JAMVAT

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is moving to boost provisions to young people under the National Youth Service (NYS) and the Jamaica Values and Attitudes (JAMVAT) programme. Portfolio Minister, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, told JIS News that the Ministry will be expanding the capacity of the NYS summer employment programme to enable more students to receive valuable work experience.
