Lasco Top Cop Turns Attention To Youth Development

PROJECTS geared toward youth development will be the main focus of the new LASCO Police Officer of the Year for 2016/2017, Corporal Kimaryo Pinnock. Corporal Pinnock, who was selected from 12 other colleagues, walked away with the award at a ceremony held at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel last Wednesday. His first project will be centred around values and attitudes, while the second, an interactive website, plans to target “youth on the corner”.

Tools for Teachers to Deal With Special Needs Students

Minister of  Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, says teachers will be provided with the tools to deal with students with special needs. In an interview with JIS News, he said the Ministry is fully aware of the challenges teachers  face when  dealing with these students, and they should be commended for their level of empathy and the work they have been doing.

Mico Committed To Strengthening Education in Jamaica

President of the Mico University College, Dr. Asburn Pinnock, is pledging the institution’s full commitment to contributing to the further development of Jamaica’s education landscape.

He says the 180 year-old institution, considered to be a leader in teacher-training in the Caribbean, sees itself as having a key role to play in transforming the country’s education system by improving standards in teaching and learning, and supporting research to address needs at various levels.

Titchfield High School are the 2016 winners of the Television Jamaica School's Challenge Quiz. After a nerve-racking and intense match, Titchfield defeated Campion College 41-39 to claim the title for the first time.

Science Fair Gives Students Chance To Shine

Students from schools across the island showed off their innovations in science and technology, while competing for attractive prizes at the Scientific Research Council's (SRC) National Science and Technology Fair 2016. The fair was recently held at the Girl Guides Association headquarters under the theme, Youth-centred Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development. It attracted entries from 19 primary, secondary and tertiary-level institutions. The fair allowed science students the opportunity to unveil inventions, innovations and scientific displays which can be used to promote national development, as well as to improve their environment.
